Sarah Shaw, 91, Indianapolis, IN passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018.

Sarah Hardy Shaw, daughter of the late Iceil Hardy and Elizabeth Thomas Hardy was born May 10, 1926 in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Sarah, also known as “Mama Sarah” moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1961 where she worked as a babysitter for years before pursuing a career in housekeeping at Robert Long Hospital and later retiring from Indiana University Hospital after 21 years of service.

Mama Sarah accepted Jesus Christ into her life at a very early age.  She was a faithful dedicated member of Jesus Church Assembly. She loved singing at her church and her favorite songs were, “I Feel Like Pressing On” and “Pray On and Don’t Give Up”.  She also once sang in a 300 member choir in Toledo, Ohio.

Mama Sarah loved being around family and friends. She loved and cooking for them.  She really loved cooking homemade rolls, sweet potato pies, homemade ice cream and her famous homemade vegetable soup!  When she wasn’t baking and cooking she like making handkerchiefs and taking them to church with her in her bible.

Mama Sarah had a lot of hats and there wasn’t a Sunday that she did not have her hat on matching her clothes.

Mama Sarah was preceded in death by her father, Iceil Hardy; mother, Elizabeth Hardy; sisters, Lenora Allen, Louise Moss, Nannie Meriwether; brother, Eddie Hardy; granddaughter, Phyllis Carter.  She leaves to cherish her memories her two daughters, Joynell (David) Kelly and Sadorlee Jackson; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild; brother, Anthony Hardy (Tennessee); goddaughter, Olivia Jordan; spiritual sister, Fannie Whitlock; and a hosts of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at noon at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

I am so sorry to hear of the death of Sarah. The passing away of a loved one is always with much sorrow. May we have faith and confidence in the Bible’s promise of a time when pain, sickness and death are a thing of the past (Revelation 21:3, 4). My condolences are with the family at this difficult time.
